Tempeh Steak

I’ve been busy celebrating the holidays, moving into our new house, and planning a wedding. Needless to say, I haven’t had much time to experiment with new recipes, and instead I’ve been making meals that are already on my blog {luckily there are a lot of them!}

When we moved into our house three weeks ago, this is the first meal I decided to cook. It was kind of a “throw together whatever is in the kitchen” kinda meal, but it quickly turned into one of our new favorites. Cauliflower Steaks, Green Beans, Mashed Sweet Potato, and these Tempeh Steaks.

Ingredients:

-Tempeh, cut into 4

-1/2 – 1 teaspoon smoked or regular paprika

-2 Tablespoons Tamari

-2 Tablespoons water

-1 teaspoon sage

-1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil + 2 Tablespoons water for cooking

Directions:

-Marinade the tempeh in tamari, water, sage, & paprika for at least 20 minutes. *The longer you marinade, the better. I did this first, and cooked/prepared everything else while the tempeh was marinading, flipping over every 20 minutes*

-On medium – high heat, in a non stick pan, add oil to the pan then add the tempeh + the marinade to the pan

-Cover for 15 minutes allowing the tempeh to steam. Then, uncover & cook until golden brown on one side, about 4 – 5 minutes

-Flip & cook the other side, another 3 – 4 minutes. Add water if necessary {if the pan is getting t0o dry/tempeh is sticking}

-Serve warm
